Software - DIY Crafts - ExcelToOPCutting - Software User Guide - Excel application for easy capture of cutting lists
This page explains you how to create easily and very flexible cutting lists and generate from these files to the format expected by OPCutting. These cutting lists allow the software to calculate the position of pieces in the panels you want to use.
In the tab "Options", select from the listbox named "Measure unit", the unit with which you work. This setting is necessary for the application to calculate some values that you do not provide it. In case of discrepancy between the unit of measure that you use to enter the dimensions in the cutting list and the unit of measure that is defined in the tab "Options", it may cause incorrect values in the data export file that will be imported into OPCutting.
Choice of headers in the export file
In the tab "Options", check or uncheck the checkbox named "Headers" depending on whether you want to add or not to add the column headers in the data export file will be imported into OPCutting.
Selection of decimal separator
In the tab "Options", select from the listbox named "Decimal sep", the decimal separator is defined in the regional settings of your computer and is used by OPCutting. In USA, the decimal separator is a point, but it may be different if you have changed the regional settings of your computer. Beware if the decimal separator is different than which is set in the regional settings of your computer, import of cutting lists files in OPCutting will systematically fail.
Cleaning lists
After several uses of the application, you will certainly entered some incorrect values in the entry boxes designations, dimensions and materials which will be found in the lists associated with these areas.
You can delete into these lists, values that seem inappropriate.
In the tab "Options", click on "Cleaning lists." This action causes the display of a dialog box that lets you select the list you want to clean.
Select from the listbox "Select the list to clean" one input "List of materials", "List of dimensions" or "List of designations." This action causes the display of all the elements of the list that you have selected in the left box edition. Select items from the list that you want to delete and click "Delete the selection".
Selection of the export folder
You can specify a default folder for saving files that will be used by OPCutting. It is recommended to define a subdirectory of the installation directory OPCutting eg "MyCuttingPlans".
Enter of designations of additional columns
The application allows you to define a series of columns (data) that are useful to you in your work but are not necessary to generate a cutting optimization. You can give the names you want to these columns.
In the tab "Options", enter the name each column in the input field to the right of the wording "Column n". These columns with the names you have given them, can be added to form of the cutting list (see Adding or deleting columns).
Selection of the export folder
In the tab "Options", click "Export Directory". This action causes the display of a dialog box that lets you select a directory on your computer. Browse to the directory you want to set as the export directory and click "OK". The directory you selected is the one that will be proposed by default when you generate a file for OPCutting.
Creation of a cutting list
The creation of a list of cutting is performed in the tab "Cutting list form" It is in this tab you enter elements of your list but it is also in this tab you can print your list for use in workshop and generate the file that will be imported into OPCutting.
Selection of type of cutting list
In the frame at the top of the tab "Cutting list form" from the listbox select "Cutting list type", the type of cutting list you want to create. You can choose between "Cutting list of panels" and "Cutting list of bars". Depending on your choice, the entry sheet will not contain exactly the same columns.
Enter of a material common to all pieces
You can define a material that is common to all pieces of your cutting list and will be automatically added whenever you add a new element in the entry sheet.
In the frame at the top of the tab "Cutting list form", type in the edit zone named "Material", the name of the material you want to assign by default to your pieces or double-click in this field. Double-click in this field brings up a list that lets you select a material that you have typed before. Select the material you want to use and then click the cross to close the list. The material then appears in the selected field.
Selection of a grain direction common to all pieces
You can define a grain direction that will be common to all pieces of your cutting list and will be automatically added whenever you add a new element in the entry sheet.
In the frame at the top of the tab "Cutting list form", select the grain direction you want to assign to your default documents in the listbox labeled "Grain direction".
Addition or deletion of columns
You can add columns to your entry sheet (which are not used by OPCutting) so that your cutting list to match the way you work. The application allows you to define a series of columns (data) that are useful to you in your work but are not necessary to generate a cutting optimization. The application is able to distinguish between the data needed for OPCutting those you need to work.
In the frame at the top of the tab "Cutting list form", click on "Add Columns" button. This action causes the display of a dialog box that lets you select columns to add or delete the entry sheet cutting list. Select the columns you want to add by clicking on their names or deselect the columns you want to delete by clicking on the selected columns. Click on "OK" button to close the dialog box. Columns that have been selected are added to the list of cuts.
Enter information about the work
You can enter information about the work which is bound to the cutting list if you see utility to work. This information is optional and is not used to create the file that will be imported into OPCutting.
In the left frame "CUTTING LIST", fill in the fields named "Name", "Set", "Subset" and "Quantity". Please note that the value entered in the field named "Quantity" for the work which the cutting list is created. It is not connected by the application to the quantities of the elements defined in the list.
Enter of the pieces of cutting list
Entering the pieces of your cutting list is equivalent in Excel sheet that you do in OPCutting when you enter the different pieces of your cutting plan. The advantage here is that you can add useful information for your work that you can not add OPCutting.
Each line corresponds to one piece of information you need to cutting plan and each cell in the row corresponding to the column "Reference", "Name", "Number", "Length", "Width", "Thickness", "Material" and "Grain direction".
If you have chosen to create a "Cutting list of bar" you will not have to entered the values "Width", "Thickness" and "Grain direction".
Entering the name, length, width, thickness and material lists are facilitated by corresponding cell associated and allow you to select the values that you previously entered. Whenever you enter a value that is not part of a list associated with a cell, this value is automatically added to the list and you can select for your next seized by a click with the right button of the mouse positioned on the cell in which you type a value or by double-click.
If you have chosen a material common to all pieces, it will be automatically added whenever you add a new piece.
Entering the grain direction is facilitated by a dropdown list to select one of three values "Horizontal", "Vertical" or "Unspecified".
If you have chosen a grain direction common to all pieces, it will be automatically added whenever you add a new piece.
Print of a cutting list
Printing a list cutting is performed via the tab "Cutting list form".
Click on "Print" button. The preview panel displays and Excel allows you to view the list of cuts as it is printed.
Click on "Print ..." which is at the top of the preview panel to print.
Generation of file of cutting list to import into OPCutting
Generation of file of cutting list to proceed with cutting optimization with OPCutting is performed via the tab "Cutting list form".
Click "Generate file for OPCutting". This action causes the display of a dialog box that lets you select the folder to save the file and give a name to it. If you have set an export directory (see "Selection of the export folder") is one that is offered by default. You can give a name to your file without extension or to add one of these extensions ". txt" or ". csv" (if you do not have an extension, add the application ". csv" on behalf of your file).
Once the directory and file name selected, click on "Save" button.
Be careful, if all cells of lines of the cutting list are not filled in, the application will display an error message and the file will not be created.
Now that your file is created, you can import it into OPCutting and proceed to optimize cutting (See help OPCutting, import a cutting list).
Delete rows from the cutting list
You can not directly delete rows of the cutting list by using the Excel edit menu. To delete rows from the list of cutting, you must proceed as explained below:
In the frame at the top of the tab "Cutting list form", click on "Delete rows" button. This action causes the display of a dialog box that allows you to either delete specific rows or delete all entries.
Select from the list to the left of the dialog box, the rows you want to delete and click on "Delete the selection" button.
Clear a cutting list
You can if you want, delete all data you have entered in the entry sheet and reset all settings to their default values.
